Kristin Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda in the first Broadway production of Wicked in 2003.

History[]

She was born as Kristi Dawn Chenoweth on July 28th, 1968, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and her music teacher changed her name to Kristin by adding the 'N' at the end. She is an American singer and actress with credits in musical theatre, film, and television. She is best known on Broadway for her performance as Sally Brown in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999), for which she won a Tony Award, and for originating the role of Glinda in the musical Wicked (2003), which earned her a Tony nomination. Kristin also participated in the Wicked workshops.

Kristin Chenoweth hurt her neck when she was in Wicked and had to wear a neck brace twice. She bedazzeled her neck brace so that it would match her costume. She later left the show. 

On Kristin's last performance of Wicked, during Popular, as a joke, she wrote a book titled 'How to Be Popular' and read it to Idina Menzel, who played the role of Elphaba at that time. It was such a surprise, nobody except for Kristin Chenoweth herself, knew it was gonna happen. She might have even wrote the book right before she went onstage to start the show.

In 1999, Kristin played the role of Lily St. Regis in the Disney film Annie.

she also portrayed sister noodle the human mime on the 1998-2012 sesame street segment elmo's world

Chenoweth sang gospel music as a child and studied opera before deciding to pursue a career in musical theater. She took dance lessons, piano lessons and singing lessons. In 1997, she made her Broadway debut in Steel Pier. Besides You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Wicked, Chenoweth's stage work includes five City Center Encores! productions, Broadway's The Apple Tree in 2006 and Promises, Promises in 2010, as well as Off-Broadway and regional theater productions.

On April 11, 2014 Kristin starred in the movie Rio 2 as Gabi, a poison-dart frog who is madly in love with the movie's antagonist, Nigel.  

on December 7, 2016, Kristin will play the role of Velma Von Tussle in NBC's Hairspray Live.
